Ordinary Magic
Ordinary Magic
Indigo falls,
glowing translucent at the horizon seam.
Stars woven into the sky
light us from a distance.
Magic happens,
usually when we aren’t watching.
Look away, and the moon rolls
silently to the west.
Hummingbirds migrate,
babies are born,
and an artist draws this magical world
from memory.
Indigo falls further into black,
too dark to see anything
except the stars, the moon,
and the light in the artist’s room.
This solarplate etching is printed in dark blue ink on Stonehenge steel gray printmaking paper. Afterward, some highlights are painted with gouache. Ordinary Magic is an edition of 14 prints. The image is 10 x 8 inches and the paper is 11 x 13 inches.
