Buffalo Ghosts
Buffalo Ghosts
Buffalo Ghosts
Dim stars flicker,
elk bugle across the dark valley,
the river flows low and rocky,
reflecting an early pink sky.
Light on the horizon
shows the silhouette of hills,
while the ghosts of buffalo in tall grass,
wake and lift their noses to the breeze.
Dawn blossoms across the sky,
songbirds stir from sleep,
autumn cottonwoods glimmer yellow,
mice rustle through fallen leaves.
Early rays light the cold ground,
and morning arrives,
bursting with a meadowlark’s song.
The shaggy buffalo ghosts vanish into fog.
