Night and Day
Night and Day
This three color linocut tells the story of the guardians of Night and Day meeting briefly at dawn to trade notes before they go their separate ways. I imagine that even though they only meet briefly twice a day, over the eons they have become good friends.
Night and Day is a linocut printed from 3 blocks with light blue, dark blue, and gold ink onto Stonehenge black paper. The image is 18 x 26 inches, and the paper is 22 x 30 inches. It is a limited edition of 20.
Guardians
Jill Bergman
In the dim starlight
and cooling breeze,
Night is our guardian.
She tracks the moon phases,
the constellations,
and the nocturnal creatures.
She sends out the moths,
and the bats
on their nightly missions.
She lays a quilt
of blacks and blues
over those who are sleeping.
She whispers dreams
into our ears,
and holds our plans for tomorrow.
When Day approaches,
the guardians trade notes
under a dawn sky.
Night takes her leave
on owl’s wings,
and Day wakes us once again.
